Description

Called the “King of Italian Cheese” and made from skimmed or partially skimmed cow’s milk, Parmigiano Reggiano is a beloved dry cheese with hard rind and a crumbly interior. It offers rich, complex and sharp flavors often described as spicy, savory, salty, fruity, caramelized, and nutty. It has an extremely granular texture due to its long aging which makes it great for grating. Under Italian law, only cheese produced in the Bologna, Mantua, Modena or Parma provinces of Italy may be labeled “Parmigiano Reggiano”, which is meant to preserve the integrity of this cheese style, including it being aged for at least fourteen months.

Each piece of cheese is cut to ~ 280g, then wrapped with eco-friendly, uncoated, grease-resistant parchment paper, and then a layer of kraft paper. Both of these are unbleached, and fully municipal-compostable.

Storage

We recommend opening the packaging slightly and placing the cheese in an air-tight container or bag such as a Stasher Reusable Half Gallon Bag (because it’s a long piece of cheese) and then in a refrigerator drawer.
