A staple of any well stocked vegan pantry! Canned jackfruit is perfect plant-based alternative for vegan tacos made with corn tortillas, vegan sloppy joes made with Nelson the Seagull’s sourdough hamburger buns, or vegan ‘pulled pork’ sandwiches made with BBQ sauce.

The jackfruit is a species of tree in the fig and mulberry family and originates southern India and Sri Lanka as well as parts of Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. When ripe, the fruit is sweet and often used in regional desserts.  When canned, the young, green jackfruit has a mild taste and a meat-like texture that lends itself to a variety of plant-based dishes.
