These tiny organic black lentils are named for their resemblance to beluga caviar. They are small but also pack a nutritionally mighty punch! Baluga lentils have a complex and rich flavour on their own but are easily able to absorb other flavours and seasonings, making them quite versatile.

Enjoy these lentils in soups and stews, even substituted in at a ration of 1:1 for Green Lentils or Du Puy Lentils. Or try sprouting them yourself at home and then add them to salads or wraps made with 10″ Organic Uncooked Flour Tortilla’s by Lita’s Mexican Foods.

Preparation

  • Lay out lentils on a sheet pan or other lightly coloured surface. Check for, and remove any debris such as small stones.
  • Place in strainer, rinse with cold running water and drain fully prior to soaking or sprouting
  • Add lentils to a pot of already boiling water, bring back up to a boil before turning down the heat to simmer for 20 minutes with a lid on. *Note: For a firmer texture, cooking times can be reduced.
