Why is using Livlite better for the earth than recycling?
Recycling is an imperfect solution for all the plastic packaging that comes out of households. First, plastic is made from non-renewable sources, and, as it gets recycled over and over again, it loses it’s ability to be recycled. IE, it’s estimated plastic can only be recycled 2-3 times.
Recycling also has to be done right to be effective. That means clean containers, sorting, and not assuming that every plastic is taken by every recycling facility. It’s complicated!
Livlite doesn’t use any single-use plastic packaging. The large majority of our products come in returnable glass jars and compostable paper bags. Some of our local cleaning suppliers use plastic spray bottles, BUT, we return the empties for refills.
I have a nut allergy. Can I use Livlite?
At this time we handle all types of food products in our facility, including all nuts. As a result we cannot guarantee that absolutely no cross contamination will occur.
Where do your products come from?
Our products are sourced from local producers and importers. We prioritize carrying products that are grown or produced locally and sustainably. Businesses we work with include Westpoint Naturals, Agro Roasters, Glory Juice, Island Nut Roastery and Jiva Organics.
How do jar deposits work?
Liquid and moisture-rich products are delivered in jars (oil, vinegar, nut butters, etc). A $2.00 deposit is included in the price of these products.
If you choose to have a dry item packaged in a jar, you will be charged $2.00 for the deposit in addition to the product price.
When you place your next order, leave any empty, clean Livlite jars (don’t worry about peeling off the label) outside and we will pick them up and credit your account.
How does your jar sanitization process work?
We are regulated by the Province of British Columbia and inspected by Vancouver Coastal Health, and our sanitization process is in accordance with these bodies. Jars are cleaned and then placed in a commercial dishwasher which sanitizes with detergent and high heat, just like the cutlery or glasses you use in a restaurant.
